Emma / Jane Austen. - London : Penguin Books, 1994. - 367 stron ; 19 cm.
The story takes place in the provincial village of Highbury and revolves around Emma Woodhouse, a clever, rich, and beautiful young woman who is perfectly content with her life. Since she has no financial need to marry, she decides to pass the time by matchmaking for others. Her first project is Harriet Smith, a sweet but socially inferior girl. Emma convinces Harriet to reject a marriage proposal from a respectable farmer, Robert Martin, believing Harriet deserves someone of higher status, like the local vicar, Mr. Elton. This plan backfires completely when Mr. Elton reveals he actually has feelings for Emma, not Harriet.Later, a wealthy and charming young man named Frank Churchill arrives in town, and Emma engages in some harmless flirting with him. At the same time, a quiet and elegant woman named Jane Fairfax visits Highbury. Emma dislikes Jane out of jealousy. Meanwhile, Emma's long-time friend and brother-in-law, Mr. Knightley, acts as her moral compass, constantly correcting her poor behavior and bad judgments. The climax of the misunderstandings occurs when Frank Churchill reveals he has been secretly engaged to Jane Fairfax all along. Harriet then confesses to Emma that she has fallen in love with Mr. Knightley. This revelation shocks Emma into realizing that she herself is deeply in love with Mr. Knightley and cannot bear the thought of him marrying anyone else.In the end, all misunderstandings are resolved: Harriet marries Robert Martin, Jane marries Frank, and Emma marries Mr. Knightley, finally learning humility and the dangers of interfering in other people's lives.

Meanwhile, his father, Jack Ryan Sr, campaigning for re-election as US President, is up against a privately funded vendetta to discredit him. Caught at the heart of the conspiracy is former Navy SEAL, John Clark. And Ryan Sr soon discovers that being his friends could have deadly consequences. With the breakneck speed and military action scenes that have made him the premier thriller writer of our time, Tom Clancy delivers a novel of high-tech warfare in which the enemy within may be even more devastating than the enemy without.
